Using a folding bag as an extra luggage option
A folding bag can provide extra capacity for the return journey. It is useful only if it remains comfortable when filled and fits the relevant baggage conditions.

Buy more than a tiny packed size
Open the bag completely and inspect its base, seams and handles. A very small packed size may involve thin material not intended for heavy or sharp-edged contents. Read load information and try handling it with representative belongings. An empty fabric bag is much easier to carry than the same bag containing several books.
Check whether the opening closes. An open shopping bag for a brief errand has different requirements from luggage on a long rail trip with several changes. Small items should not fall out when it is laid on a shelf. One inner pocket may handle small belongings without making the whole design complicated.
Consider the complete return luggage
Place your main luggage and filled folding bag together. Can you carry both, open doors and manage stairs? A bag that hangs conveniently from a suitcase becomes a separate carrying task when the case needs lifting. Any intended trolley sleeve should fit the handle without interfering with safe handling of the case.
On a flight, the additional bag may count as another piece of baggage. Check the size, weight and piece allowance of your fare before planning around extra capacity. A folded pouch inside a suitcase differs from the same bag filled at boarding. Being foldable creates no exemption from carriage conditions.
Add capacity deliberately
Before buying something at your destination, decide what would move into the extra bag. Soft clothes could go there while delicate souvenirs remain protected inside the main luggage. Do not automatically place heavy new purchases in a thin bag unsuitable for them. Include the final journey from the station to your home in the carrying plan.
After use, clean and dry the bag as instructed. Fold it back into its cover without forcing trapped zips or strained seams. If repacking it is consistently awkward, a slightly larger stored size may be preferable. Reserve capacity should make the journey easier rather than introduce another inconvenient object to manage.
