Privacy Policy

Scope and contact

This notice covers the U.S. English edition of MyBorchard, a journal about travel in Germany and Europe. For privacy questions and requests, email wilfried@myborchard.de.

Information used to deliver pages

Our hosting provider processes your IP address, request time, requested address and technical browser information to deliver pages, investigate faults and protect the website. The hosting location is in the United States. Relevant technical records are retained only as needed for these purposes or to investigate a specific incident; actual server retention settings determine the period.

Search and subject filters run in your browser. Search terms are not sent to a search service. Images, fonts and scripts are hosted with the website. There are no accounts, booking or payment functions, newsletter signups or contact forms.

Email enquiries

If you email us, our email service provider processes your email address, message and delivery information so we can respond. Correspondence is kept as needed to resolve the enquiry, meet applicable retention duties or address specific legal claims. Please avoid sending information that is not needed for your enquiry.

Language selection and local storage

On the neutral entry page at /, if no language has been saved, the browser requests https://ipwho.is/?fields=success,country_code. The ipwho.is provider receives your IP address and connection information and returns a country code. DE, AT and LI select German; other locations, request failures and a five-second timeout select English. Explicit /en/ and /de/ pages do not make this request.

A manual language selection takes priority and is saved in local storage as myborchard-language until you clear site data. Open /en/ directly to avoid the IP lookup. Provider information is available at https://ipwhois.io/privacy.

Cookies and affiliate measurement

The English edition currently uses no analytics or affiliate-tracking cookies and has no cookie consent panel. The German edition has a separate panel for planned affiliate measurement; if you visit it, its choice is stored as myborchard-consent for up to 180 days. That choice does not enable tracking on the English edition. You can remove either local setting through your browser.

No affiliate measurement service is integrated in this version. Omitting a consent panel does not authorize tracking. Any future integration requires an updated notice and any privacy choices or consent required for the actual service and audience.

Recipients, location and your choices

Hosting and email providers receive the information necessary for their services. The IP lookup provider receives connection information only when the language lookup runs. Email and lookup processing may take place outside your country; specific processing locations and transfer arrangements for those services have not been independently confirmed.

You may email us to ask about access, correction or deletion of information you have provided. We will assess requests under applicable law and may need information to verify the request. Where applicable, additional rights and complaint routes are available under relevant privacy law. This notice does not promise rights or exemptions based on an unverified business threshold.
